Frequency23.org is offering-- for free --a recording of one of Bill Hicks last performances.
If you're a fan of Hicks, you've likely heard much of the material. But this show was from after censors exorcised his act from Letterman, so he wails on that for a while. With a vengence.
If you haven't heard of Hicks, you're missing out. For my money if he's not the best, he is in the top 2 greatest stand-up comedians ever. And he was political as shit.
I wish he were around today.

ReplyDeleteWhen you join this music service called eMusic (kinda like a smaller, indy style iTunes) you get 50 free downloads. One of the downloads I chose was an ENTIRE concert by Lenny Bruce. It was only a few months before his death, so he seems pretty frazzled, but it's still good stuff. Bruce, Hicks, and Pryor are like the holy trinity of comedians to me.

Lenny Bruce's How to Talk Dirty is one of the classics of all time.
ReplyDeleteAnd while there were so many all time greats (Dangerfield, Rock, Carlin and those names you mentioned), there's a lot of great stuff (esp. on Comedy Central) right now (South Park's Matt and Trey, Mencia, Chappelle, Daily Show, hell, I'm even coming around to Stephen Colbert.
