Montag In the Mix

Let's try this.

Cover Art

Here we have the cover and track listing for a mix tape I mad for my Dad around the holidays. Below is a player upon which you can listen to it. Actually, since all the songs aren't "available," it is rather an approximation of the mix tape I made, which was actually a compact disk.

For instance:

The Smiths are replaced by the Smyths (a Smiths cover band.)

Man of Steel, a down-tempo surf-style guitar affair, is replaced with Thalassocracy, a club mix by, I think, The Basement Jaxx (a track I don't think my Dad would like.)

No One by Dada is replaced with the song known to people who wrongly thought Dada was no more than a one hit wonder. (That guy can play the shit out of a guitar.)

In It for the Money was N/A, and is replaced with another Smiths cover.

I had to switch-up on Buddy Guy tracks. If you like the blues, find the missing track and listen to it. Go down and sell your immortal soul at the crossroads if you have to.

Head with Wings by Morphine could be replaced with any other track by Morphine. They are all awesome. Here it is replaced with Supersex.

The Pixies Here comes your Man is replaced with Hey.

So, Project Playlist is a great idea, and kinda fun to play around with. Obviously, it isn't easy to create a specific playlist (as I found out,) and it's a bit buggy just now. I spent a lot of time in this project getting error messages repeatedly telling me to refresh my browser window to repeat my search. The search function seems to work better if you type in the title or the artist, rather than both.

I hope they can get the kinks ironed out and that the music industry one day realizes that this could be a great vehicle to promote artists and make this stuff available. (I have bought a lot of my music collection based on mix tapes I received over the years... No joke!)

From time to time I hope to make tracklists for some of the great mixes I have in my cassette collection, which I no longer listen to. I will be sure to share the results with all y'all Shitheads when I do.
