old style Queen
I found this old video of my favorite Queen song, "Death on Two Legs," and I had to share it.

this is the proudest day of my life
I actually scooped the greatest blog on the planet,
WFMU! My post on "
feedback man" beat WFMU's post by almost
2 hours.
Sorry. I just had to pat myself on the back because I'm sure this will never happen again!
the word is "surreal"
Well, that didn't last long. This link is via
WFMU (back to normal!).
Watch the old folks get down to some Velvet Underground on the Lawrence Welk Show!
Friday Night Videos
Remember Friday Night Videos? If you lived in the middle of nowhere without cable in the early 1980s, this was how you got your weekly dose of video pop culture. If I remember right, this was the premiere source of music videos circa 1982/1983, even getting videos before MTV.
Well, in what I hope becomes a regular feature at Braindead Shithead, here's your first dose of Friday Night Videos starting off with some videos from what I consider to be one of the top 10 albums of the 1980s, even if it was somewhat inconsistent. No video for my second favorite song off this album, Flying North, but there is a cute little amateur video of Washu from Tenchi Muyo set to She Blinded Me With Science. Enjoy.

Education Friday: 4
A bit late this week, but we continue with Multiplication Rock. This time it's
The Four-Legged Zoo.
BACKSIDE, BIATCH!
I know, you probably didn't need to see that, but you had to.

In showing why he's totally the man...
Here is James Lipton bringing a little class to Conan O'Brien.
Very little, but what do you expect?
Here, he is reciting a bit of Kevin Federline's "Popozao".
Like I care if I misspelled it? Whatever.
And
here is Lipton doing another one of his "classics", 'Y'all ain't ready'. Oh, you'd better believe that.
Best signage ever!
Another picture post but I couldn't resist. I'll actually bring you something that moves tomorrow night but for now, this is from my favorite photo blog, Top Left Pixel. It's part of a new sign for a store in Toronto called Active Surplus. Now that's my kind of store. It's hard to get a sense of scale in this photo, but those are video game controllers on the shoulder blades so I'd have to say our little tech dude here is about 4.5' - 5' high. And incidentally, while we're north of the border, take a peak at my favorite web cam in the whole world. It's the KatKam in lovely downtown Vancouver. If I had money this is where I'd be living.
A fishy tale
OK, you've probably all seen these by now, but I think they're cool so here's Ray Troll's Tiktaalik posters. Ray Troll is sort of like a rock star in the exciting fast paced world of fish illustration and for good reason. His art has a whimsy unmatched except perhaps by MC Escher. I totally love it! Be sure to check out his gallery if you're unfamiliar with this wonderful Alaskan artist.
Just in case you've been in a cave, or the Bush Whitehouse, Tiktaalik roseae is a 375 million year old never-before-discovered species of fish that represents a missing link in the evolutionary tree of life from when our flippery friends first hefted themselves out of the ocean to frolic in the mud on rudimentary limbs.
On edit: I swear there must be something wrong with me because this is one of the cutest critters I've ever seen. Keep your fluffy kitties. I'll take one of these for a pet any day!
biofeedback
What do you get when you strap microphones all over your body in a room full of speakers and electronic equipment?
Something like this...
WARNING:
Make sure your volume is turned down!!!

A special request
Hey everybody. How would you like to donate to a good cause
and hear some great tunes? There's a group of ladies I'm very fond of who have a band called
Lascivious Biddies. Last year their guitarist Amanda Monaco was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She's doing just fine so far, but many people are not so lucky. The Biddies are participating in the 2006 NYC MS Walk to raise money for research into MS and community treatment programs. I'm trying to do my own little part to help out and I'd like to ask anyone who can to give a small donation toward their goal. You can get all the details on
Neural Gourmet. So why not come on over, listen to some great tunes and give a little to help out in the fight against this terrible disease?
Oh, and Madame, I think the music player will even work for you. ;-)
Ladies and gentlemen...Ms. Ethel Merman

United 93
From Associated Press:
Theater Pulls Trailer for 'United 93'The AMC Loews Lincoln Square 12 theater in Manhattan said it made the decision after viewers complained they found it too upsetting.
"I don't think people are ready for this," theater manager Kevin Adjodha said.
Ok, I'm a crass, cold-hearted, unemotional cretin. So, upon reading the above, I immediately seeked out the trailer and watched it.
You can do the same and view the trailer by clicking on this sentence.I'll tell you, it actually was quite stirring. If it had been ten seconds longer I'd have been in tears.
I'm not saying it should be pulled, though.

I love me some Bigfoot
Okay, I'm big enough to admit I love Bigfoot. I hope he/she/they are real. Growing up, I always wanted to search for Bigfoot. In fact, I used to pretend I was tracking Bigfoot in the woods behind my house. What was Bigfoot doing in the foothills of Appalachia? I haven't a clue. But I was going to find him!
Normally I just steal whatever I need from various blogs/websites, but this post from
Bedroom Dancing is so good, I'm stealing the
whole damn thing. Get your Bigfoot fix, including the fake Patterson video that had stupid hillbillies combing their neighborhood for Sasquatch.

Sellouts!
Now, I love the Rolling Stones, and we all know they have a long and glorious history of selling out.
I mean, you've got to keep Keith in cigarettes, and Mick in child support, after all.
I found this...um...little gem. They're shilling for Rice Krispies, back in '64. Was it the beginning, or the beginning of the end?

Mr. Show Monday: Three Times One Minus One
Classic classic sketch. I wish this clip included the next bit, "Rap: The Musical", but it's still awesome. Pitch-perfect parody of ridiculous White performers.

Five GIRLS.
I would have never thought of GIRLS doing this sort of thing.
GIRLS.
Not girly boys.
GIRLS
Though you may be in a heap of trouble with your home town rag and residents, oh five teenage girls from Portage County, Ohio, we salute you and your April Fool's prank: dropping or suspending seventeen Mario Bros. question cubes around town.
The HAZMAT and Fire Department crews from steppied in to "defuse" the situation, so to speak, and for it the five girls could face serious criminal charges. Too bad, because if those guys would have just jumped up and hit them from beneath they might instead have walked away with a sweet power-up (or an extra man).
