Bill Motherfucking Hicks
If you're a fan of Hicks, you've likely heard much of the material. But this show was from after censors exorcised his act from Letterman, so he wails on that for a while. With a vengence.
If you haven't heard of Hicks, you're missing out. For my money if he's not the best, he is in the top 2 greatest stand-up comedians ever. And he was political as shit.
I wish he were around today.
When you join this music service called eMusic (kinda like a smaller, indy style iTunes) you get 50 free downloads. One of the downloads I chose was an ENTIRE concert by Lenny Bruce. It was only a few months before his death, so he seems pretty frazzled, but it's still good stuff. Bruce, Hicks, and Pryor are like the holy trinity of comedians to me.
And while there were so many all time greats (Dangerfield, Rock, Carlin and those names you mentioned), there's a lot of great stuff (esp. on Comedy Central) right now (South Park's Matt and Trey, Mencia, Chappelle, Daily Show, hell, I'm even coming around to Stephen Colbert.
makes me think of the time I was drunk and the bartender looked like Condoeeza and I had to have sex with the 19 year old busser to hold back my thoughts...
thank god for taste.
