A Date With The Family (1950)

I have an almost morbid fascination with these old videos. Be they about proper hygiene, job safety, good study habits, or how families should behave with one another (like this video), I am always taken by the detached tranquility of it all. Yes, you can almost smell the dangerous cocktail of repression and amphetamines.

The message itself is very sweet; enjoy the time with your family. The deliver, however, is...well...all I'm saying is, I would kill somebody if forced to live in the manner depicted in this video.

"The dinner table is no place for discontent. It makes mother and father uncomfortable."

Ah, the '50's.

In reality Biff is just waiting till Dad passes out on the couch after his two double vodka tonics so he can snitch $10 to feed his benzedrine habit.

Mom works part-time as a dancer at the local lounge. The rest of the time, she just sits at home and cries.
