I've got 58 nominees for the Darwin Awards

We here at Braindead Shithead are NOTHING if not totally focused on the well-being of our readers.
After all, there's not that many. We need to keep every one.

So, in the interest of public safety, I think we all need to be made aware of this.

WHITEFIELD, N.H. - Police and school officials are issuing warnings about a potentially fatal game gaining popularity among teenagers after the death of a 14-year-old boy.
Eighth-grader Rodney Webster died last week after choking himself to deprive his brain of oxygen so he could feel a brief rush when the blood flow returned.

His death prompted Whitefield Police Chief Bill Colburn and school officials to create pamphlets outlining the danger of the so-called "choking game." They will be distributed Monday when children return from winter break.

"They need to make people aware," said Webster's mother, Lori. "We don't want this to happen to anybody else."

Her son was a wrestler and eighth-grade class president.

The game — also known as space monkey, flat-liner, fainting game and black out — was responsible for more than 50 deaths last year and eight this year, according to the Stop The Choking Game Web site.

It can also cause brain damage, strokes, seizures and retinal damage.

Um, I hate to say this, but if you're stupid enough to choke yourself, this is what you get.
8th grade class president-all I can say is, I'm glad he was taken out of the gene pool before diluting it further, or going on to become ACTUAL president. It's sad for his family, but really, how stupid was this kid?

Here are the warning signs...

1. Inexplicable marks or bruises on the throat
2. Frequent severe headaches
3. Redness of the eyes
4. Belts, leashes, ropes, shoelaces tied in strange knots or found in unusual locations.
5. Unexplained cuts or bruises from falling
6. Disorientation after spending time alone
7. Locked bedroom doors

Not all of these signs may be present.

Considering I have 5 of those symptoms, I think I'm going to go turn myself in. Clearly, things have been happening that I'm not aware of.

Comments:
They're just trying to emulate their hero, Michael Hutchence.
He was pretty, I'll admit.

Heh.
There was a kid in jr.high who did something like this, on accident.
He was in english, and had put his arms on the opposite shoulder, to see if he could really make himself pass out.
He could.
Heh.

All kids (yes, even adults) make foolish, foolish decisions. They think nothing will hurt them, or even kill them. Death is not a part of their vocabular. It could be one too many drinks or driving too fast. But as your post here is about the choking game, it was for my son too. He died from it. He was only 16 and had a wonderful future in front of him. But, he saw it on a crime show - probably thought he'd try it. He tried it and LOST the game. His two younger brothers found him. His siblings saw him dead on the floor as I tried to breath life into him. But, it was not meant to be, and so we walk through the valley of death. Someday we know our tears will be wiped away but until then, there will be many tears.

PARENTS, TEACHERS, FRIENDS, KIDS, PASTORS, COUNSELORS, all need to be aware and talk about this. Had we known this game existed, we would have discussed it with our children. Maybe our son would be alive.
