TIP: Downloading YouTube and other videos

Are you tired of YouTube's horribly slow loading times and choppy playback? Thanks go to our friend Jeff at Throw Away Your TV for pointing out this website that makes it possible for you to download videos from YouTube and other sites. Presumably you might then upload them to a better site like Google Video or VSocial.

The only problem is that YouTube videos will download as .flv (Flash Video) files and you'll need to convert them. I'll post a tip for doing that later (meaning as soon as I figure it out).

Hey, gang! JR here. Just to add to tng's already good post, here is a program called CinemaForge, which works great for converting flv to any format you like. This is the best and easiest program I've been able to find.

Yeah, I got this tip a few months back and forgot to post anything. Sorry. I figure, if you want anything from YouTube and vSocial you should get it...know what I mean?

Also, I just added an update with a great conversion application.

I haven't tried CinemaForge yet, but I really like eRightSoft's SUPER video converter. It does literally everything (being based on mplayer) and it's dead simple. I was going to post about it after determining a way to make sense of all the settings for people.

I'll have to try that one. I stumbled upon CinemaForge and I've had good luck with it. Once I find something that works, I stop shopping. Kind of a character flaw, I guess. Or laziness.

Well, all I can say is, I hate V Social. Because it never shows me anything when I do a search.
ANYTHING.
And, once? I was literally looking up something that had been on the first page, with the proper title, even proper capitolization of said title, and it STILL didn't come up!

VSocial is heavily modal. You need to make sure that when you do a search that you click on 'Title/Text' if you want to search that way. Otherwise you might be searching on Tags or even name of uploader. They do need to improve their search though.
