A good perspective on "Revenge of the Nerds"

This is cross-posted, sort of, on DFWT.

TNG's painful revelation of a Revenge of the Nerds remake made me think of this scene from the movie American Splendor. In it, the character Toby describes perfectly the attraction of the film. Also included was a clip I found of Harvey Pekar's disastrous last appearance on David Letterman's show. Oh, Harvey...will you ever learn?!?

Comments:
"And it uplifts me."

Okay, somebody didn't take their medication before going to hang out with Dave. While I'm not a fan in the slightest of Letterman, um, yeah. I can admire his restraint. That's why he's on television and I'm not.
I'd probably be beating Harvey with the microphone prop.

I love how that dude says "Nerds". He makes it a two syllable word. Then he nearly chokes on the White Castles. That kills me.

Madame! I'm shocked! Beating him with the microphone prop? Such sacrilege! That's no prop. That's a beautiful old RCA DX-77 ribbon microphone from the mid-1950s. Most musicians I know would kill their own mother to get their grubby little fingers on one of these babies and they're very expensive.

Oh, OK, it is a prop because it's usually not plugged in but still, please show some respect for the vintage audio equipment or else I'm going to have to have my friend Rich come find you and lecture you into submission on the evils of digital audio. Believe me, you don't want that. ;-)

No! No, I don't need the beat down!
Personally, I think it's cool, though I hadn't the slightest idea of its actual value or anything.

I meant "prop" in that it wasn't generally plugged in.

Would that big yellow coverd mic that Paul's using be a good substitute? Maybe a keyboard (or two)?

Yes. I think if you could find a good Casiotone (an oxymoron if I ever heard one) then that would be appropriate.
