From the musical everything old is new again department

A great find by Rich and John from the Bloodthirsty Vegetarians podcast. Despite their name, the Israeli band Trespass, dating to the late 1990s, has nothing whatsoever to do with Genesis. They do however do a more than passable recreation of the old Emerson, Lake and Palmer sound which is no mean feat as the band claims to have never heard of the '70s power-prog trio before. Well, whether or not one believes that, I think you'll agree that Trespass' work is as beautiful as it is anachronistic.

No intellectual property rights lawyers were caused mental distress in the production of this sampler as all files were taken from the Pod Safe Music Network. However, if you're so inclined you can buy the band's CD from Musea Records.

If they haven't heard of ELP, who the hell were their rock influences?!? Dear god, they sound exactly like ELP (with more pop and jazz flavor).

I'm gonna break out my "Brain Salad Surgery" and freak out!

Yeah, I was talking about that with Rich last night and he noted that Triumvirat (German ELP clone) claimed exactly the same thing back when they hit the scene in the early 1970s. I don't get it. Never mind that they're all a keyboard + guitar + drum trios, never mind the Hammond organ, never mind the stylistic influence... all three bands managed to develop an almost identical sound? Seems unlikely to me, but whatever floats their boats.

All that aside they have a great sound that would have been right at home in 1970. But I like them, and Keith Emmerson is getting on in years.

On afterthought, we can be thankful Trespass never heard of the early 1970s ELP instead of never hearing of the Love Beach ere ELP. That would have been truly tragic.

Did you ever hear that soundtrack Keith Emerson did in the late 70s for the movie "Nighthawks"? I think that was the last of the jazzy/psychedelic soundtracks from the 70s. It hasn't aged very well (I suspect) but I really liked it. One of my former roommates got that album from me and never gave it back. I'm not sure if it's still in print.

Man, I just checked Amazon and it turns out the "Nighthawks" ST was never released on CD! I hate my roommate!

Hah. No, I've never heard that. Oh wow. Keith Emerson scored a Sylvester Stallone flick. Speaking of Keith Emerson and bad movies, did you see Moog? FWIW, I agree with the review by Paul Soulsby there but I'm not as harsh on the documentary. It was great just to see Bob Moog all goofy and new age philosophy about his synths again. I may be overly sentimental though because I watched it right after Bob Moog died.
