B(r)and Loyalty

Cross posted from my place. (I didn't do a random music audit this week; and this may very well be as close as I get to making a 'top 100' list of albums.)

Sixteen artists* whose work--- [when they/if they were to] put out an album of new material ---Your Montag [would purchase/at one time would have purchased] sound unheard. Listed alphabetically.


*Bold entries indicate artists that [would likely/have actually in the past] swindled Your Montag into purchasing a [greatest hits/anthology/some crappy movie soundtrack/digitally remastered boxed set] just to get the one or two [rarities/unreleased tracks/new material] included.

Okay. Subtract Alice in Chains, Bad Religion, Morphine, and Led Zep, and that's damned close to a list I'd make.

Good list. I have to admit I'm not very familiar with Underworld. Also interesting that A Perfect Circle made the list but not Tool. I haven't heard enough of A Perfect Circle to detect the differences from Tool, though.

You could subtract Nirvana and Alice in Chains just for that mean ol' "Singer is dead" factor...

The Tool omission was an oversight!

If I had to bump one of these to make room for Tool it would be A.I.C. whom I was very enthusiastic about in college, during their Facelift-Sap-Dirt era, but my enthusiasm would kind of peter out after Jar of Flies. (I also wasn't too thrilled about the last Nirvana release.) These are the reasons for the "at one time would have" clause... Beck was on the bubble, too and just missed the cut for similar reasons.

After my personal history of listening to Dirt every time I got drunk during my senior year of tech school (ie: every night.) I became depressed when I heard about the circumstances of Layne Staley's death and that his body wasn't found for two weeks! (and all that that implies.)
