Sunday in the Mix v11.0

Good mix this week. No unifying theme, just a lot of stuff.

Fun little song by Meu to start off. Then we find what I think is the real gem of the Mix, the song by Howling Bells. This whole album is fantastic. I could have easily chosen 4 or 5 songs to play, but "Setting Sun" is the best, I think.

You will hear a lot about this Herbert album. It's somewhat reminiscent of the Gnarles Barkley album, but a little mellower. I love the song by Film School. Just straight ahead morose rock. Love it. That's capped off by a punky number from last year by OK Go.

Then things take a turn...

I really like the song by Jeff Walker Und Die Fluffers, but I might be in the minority. It's a strange mix of country and metal. Definitely an acquired taste. "Dinner with Ivan" by Roommate is haunting, but in a good way. Bardo Pond does our 'long song' slot proud with a 17 minute epic! A little shot of weirdness from Think About Life follows. I love this kind of psychedelic throwback stuff. Speaking of throwback stuff, the oldies tune is a real beauty this week. "Fly" by JK & Co is absolutely breathtaking. I couldn't help thinking of Rufus Wainwright when I heard this song. So beautiful.

Mix time: 51:33

1. Meu - "Dude"
2. Howling Bells - "Setting Sun"
3. Herbert - "Movie Star"
4. Film School - "He's A Deepdeep Lake"
5. OK Go - "Television, television"
6. Jeff Walker Und Die Fluffers - "The Man Comes Around"
7. Roommate - "Dinner With Ivan"
8. Bardo Pond - "Dual States"
9. Think About Life - "Commander Riker's Party"
10. JK & Co. - "Fly"

I would also like to take this opportunity to mourn the passing of another great band, Sleater-Kinney. They were good. They were good.

Comments:
Excellent mix this week! You're right about Setting Sun too. Well, that's all I have time for before my internet connection craps out again.
