You better listen to Ann

Madame posted about Ann Richards' passing yesterday, and I agree with her. Ann Richards was one of a vanishing breed of pragmatic progressives who is able to both get elected and get programs and policy across that improve people's lives. Bernie Sanders is perhaps the only living counterpart that I can think of (and that's not to dis Al Gore or Russ Feingold). In my post at Neural Gourmet I included Ann Richard's Keynote Address to the 1988 Democratic Convention in Atlanta, Georgia which is how I first came to be aware of this remarkable woman and thought all our Shithead friends would want to hear it too. I was very saddened by this news. She was a strong voice for equality in an extremely backward state. That takes a lot of courage. I'm also worried about Molly Ivins, who is battling cancer, as well.

Funny you should mention that. Molly Ivins just wrote a column remembering Ann Richards. Yeah, Molly is another one of those great old broads that never learned "their place" and we're all the better for it. I like Hillary Clinton, but she just doesn't hold a candle to women like Ann Richards (or Molly Ivins).
